The Helping Hands Group opened its doors in 2011 and was the brain child of Suzanne Gilby who had worked in the industry for 26 years at that point. Suzanne wanted to create a service that solely focused on barrier free individual progression within the most important areas, independence, life skills and work experience to anyone aged 16+ with a learning or associated difficulty.
Back in 1994 Suzanne's mother in law had a sudden brain haemorrhage which in turn left her with severe learning and physical disabilities and back then there was no such service available to her, instead she had to spend her time in a nursing home. Suzanne's main ambition was to ensure that no other family had to arrive at such a brick wall moving forward. The Helping Hands Group was therefore founded in the loving memory of Karen Gilby.
